Life After AMP
Network Group

Q: What ever happened to that diversely talented team of people who worked together at AMP (and . . . Pearl, NPI, London Life, HGI, Cogent etc) up until its memorable de-merger in 2003?

A: You’re now some of the most influential people in Financial Services across the UK

The aim of the AMP Networking Group is to put people back in touch with old colleagues and create mechanisms and events for sharing information and helping each other.

The latest networking event took place on the 6th of November at the East India Club in St. James’s Square, London.  There was a great turnout – over 55 attendees – please have a look at some of the photos:

The event was co-hosted by Richard Astle, MD of Athene Communications (www.athene-communications.co.uk) and Jason Atkinson, Managing Director - Private Sector, Russam GMS.  They welcomed everyone to the Club and then Duncan Hopper made a short speech on the importance of networking and business relationships – especially during the tough economic conditions that we are experiencing:

  • We all know that family and friends are the most important things and priorities in our lives, but relationships built up from working together, should be seen as an asset to be grown via contact.

  • Don't always have to like a person but it helps. My experience is that every 20 people you meet 15 are bores and I’m sure a number of you here see me in that category!!! but why not be polite, courteous, treat people as you wish to be treated. 5 however turn out to be interesting and you want to see them again and 5 out of a 100 turn out to become long term friends.

  • So supporting colleagues doing them a good turn if I can, is a bit of  a philosophy for me. I’m not looking for anything in return, people soon see who are the takers not the givers! Meeting, keeping in touch when I can because we are all busy people is part of that.

  • Always tell my kids that the relationships they build in first ten years at University and early on in a career can sustain them if nurtured for their career.

  • So meeting here this evening is part of that, raise our glasses to Jason and Richard for inviting us and to each other.
