LinkedIn Masterclass for Interims

Events LinkedIn or Locked Out?! That's the question! LinkedIn is a fantastic professional networking site, but to use it successfully you have to understand how to use the tools effectively. In April, we hosted a 'LinkedIn Essentials Masterclass' for our Interim Managers in London and Manchester led by LinkedIn guru and marketing expert Mark Williams.

Mark has 20 years' senior level experience in the recruitment industry and is regarded as one of the UK's leading experts and authority on using LinkedIn. In 2010, he achieved recognition from LinkedIn as its first and only certified trainer in the UK (and only the 2nd in the world!)

So, what did we learn and was the training effective? Here are some key facts about the growth of LinkedIn:

• Did you know that there are currently around 100 million LinkedIn users globally and growing rapidly?

• Did you know that there are 5+ million users in UK, growing at 100,000 per month?

• Did you know that (in terms of visits to the site per month) the most active city in the world is London...followed by New York?

• Did you know that the average user is 43 years old, with 15 years experience and a 'decision maker'?

There is a huge buzz around Social Media being the future of online recruitment and LinkedIn is a great example of a professional networking site where jobseekers can promote their skills and experience to potential employers. Being at the forefront of this new trend can benefit Interim Managers who are looking to grow their network of contacts, develop opportunities and stand out from the crowd.

Across the two venues the training was very well attended, and the session was designed to help our Interim Managers:

• Build a reputation and personal brand within a highly relevant online community

• Produce a powerful LinkedIn profile that is not only impressive but is also easily found when recruiters perform searches

• Use LinkedIn as a research and business intelligence tool

• Find opportunities and openings before they are advertised through the Interim's network

• Help the Interim to communicate and approach key contacts

Following the session the Interims networked and also met with our Senior Principals who wanted to get to know more about each individual's professional offering and how we can best support them and help them find assignments.

Was the training a success? Here is the feedback, we'll let you decide!

"Thank you very much for the presentation. The training was truly highly relevant (guess how I spent my Sunday afternoon!), so for this as well, thank you to all involved at Russam for providing this opportunity to learn... and to connect." (Dr Capucine Carrier, Xenos Consulting)

"Many thanks. I thoroughly enjoyed the session and found it invaluable" (Richard Moulds, Moulds Management Consulting Ltd)

"Thanks for the presentation. It was a most informative session." (Bob Mason, Hawkswood Resources Ltd)

"I really enjoyed the event and got a lot from it." (Tim O'Connor, O'Connor Partnership Ltd)

"I think it was extremely worthwhile - I learnt a lot and have already started putting some of the tips into practice! I know that Mark catered for a diverse set of people with varying levels of experience of LinkedIn but he did a very good job of going through the topics that he wanted to. I hope that this training will give the Russam GMS talent bank the competitive edge it needs in the current economic climate! All thanks to both of you and the supporting team for organising the event. Much appreciated!" (Amin Somji, AMSO Consultancy Ltd)

Charles Russam, Chairman comments, "LinkedIn is a powerful networking tool that can help people market themselves and their business, research jobs and build relationships with potential clients and new contacts. This masterclass really demonstrated its potential as an essential business tool and from the feedback received it seems that the Interims who attended all took away many useful tips."
